TLS, 1914 October 10 : Tuskegee Institute, Alabama, to the editor of the Herald.

A mimeographed letter, apparently a press release, on the letterhead of the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute for the Training of Colored Young Men and Women. Washington writes of ways for colored families to increase the wealth of their race during the money stringency created by WWI, suggesting those who live on farms to raise pigs and to organize Pig Clubs.

Booker T. Washington was an African American educator and public figure. Born a slave on a small farm in Hale's Ford, Virginia, he worked his way through the Hampton Institute and became an instructor there. He was the first principal of the Tuskegee Institute, and under his management it became a successful center for practical education.
